BCSA’s First Tournament Completion in Club History Proves Successful On and Off the Field

PORTLAND, Ore. --- Bridge City Soccer Academy’s 2010s, 2008s, 2007s, and 2004s highlighted the six BCSA teams that competed in their first tournaments of the year at the PCU Summer Classic and the Crossfire Challenge, all finishing in the top-three of their group.

The 2010 Orange squad, who went undefeated on the weekend, topped LYS 10G Black 9-3 on Friday, Hillsboro Bayern Red 8-2 on Saturday to move onto the Sunday final. The team produced a convincing 5-0 win over THUSC Academy green to wrap up their weekend and claim a gold medal. During BCSA’s match against Hillsboro, the team also chose to apply BCSA’s values of sportsmanship by helping Bayern Red, who had a few players unable to play in their lineup, compete on the field with a full squad by rotating in some Swifts to play for their opponents.

After PCU 08 Black, eventual U12 PCU tournament champions, escaped with a 1-0 win over BCSA 2008 Black on Friday, the 08 BCSA squad answered by defeating United PDX East 08G Blue 6-0 on Saturday. 08 Black also produced a solid result against FC Portland White later that day, coming from behind twice to tie the then-group leader 2-2. Narrowly missing the finals match by two points, the 08 girls then faced United PDX East again on Sunday morning in the consolation game to secure a third-place medal with a 4-1 win.

In the U13 Black Omega group, the 07 Swifts took FCSC Nemesis 07 Blue to PKs in the Sunday final. Though the BCSA keeper made two saves to keep the team in the game, Nemesis eventually took the win at the conclusion of the PK shootout. The 2007 squad was undefeated leading up to the final, topping HSC Bayern Red 5-0 on Friday, Pacific FC Grey 3-0 on Saturday, and tying Lake Oswego Dynasty white Sunday morning.

Ending the long weekend on Monday, the 2004 BCSA squad advanced to the semifinals of the Crossfire Challenge before PACNW 04 Maroon scored one to move on to the finals to face Seattle United 04 Copa. BCSA 04 also had a strong lead up to their final game, falling to Crossfire Premier 2-1 on Friday, topping Seattle United 04 Tango 4-0 on Saturday, and defeating 3 Rivers 3RSC 04 Black 4-1 on Sunday.

BCSA squads will again be in action this weekend at the Sounders Cup in Tukwila, Washington, and the Beaverton Cup, in Beaverton, Ore.
